"We liked it when you played Mozart for us, because you showed us that playing in a quartet is like being part of a sports team -- you showed us how to work together, pay attention, and listen to each other. And you guys made it fun!"

--Excerpt from a letter from a 3rd grade class to the Vinca Quartet.

Vinca Quartet

Hailed by the New York Times as "stunning", and "worth keeping an eye on", the Vinca String Quartet was formed in 2002 at the Yale School of Music and began its career working with the Tokyo String Quartet. In September 2004, the quartet was awarded the position of graduate-quartet-in-residence at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where they were assistants and protégés of the acclaimed Takács Quartet for three years.

The Vincas were the only American participants of the Carnegie Hall Professional Training Workshops: Beethoven Quartets, where they worked closely with the Emerson String Quartet in the spring of 2007. The quartet was selected to participate in the International Musician's Seminar at Prussia Cove in Cornwall, England in 2005.

They were prizewinners of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2005, and finalists at both the Plowman and Chesapeake Chamber Music Competitions in 2006. Recent summer appearances have included the Juilliard Quartet Seminar, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Banff Centre Chamber Music Festival in Canada, and the Colorado Quartet's Soundfest Institute. In addition to the Takács, Tokyo, Emerson, Juilliard, and Colorado Quartets, members of the Vinca Quartet have also worked with the Cavani, Cleveland, Manhattan, Orion, St. Petersburg, and the Vermeer String Quartets.

The quartet has performed in a variety of chamber music venues, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Sprague Memorial Hall in New Haven, Ct., the Yale Center for British Art, Aspen's Harris Hall, and Vail's Vilar Center for the Arts at Beaver Creek.

Committed to teaching as well as performing, the quartet enjoys coaching the next generation of string players through workshops in public schools and string programs throughout the country. The quartet has coached young musicians through residencies with the Aspen Music Festival, the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, and the Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute.

Tina Lee Hadari, Executive Director

Executive Director Tina Lee Hadari's passion for urban music education was ignited eight years ago while teaching in East Harlem, New York at Opus 118, an organization that became the subject of the movie, "Music of the Heart." Her love of chamber music began as a thirteen-year old while reading the Schubert Cello Quintet with four boys at a summer music camp. Since completing her various degrees at the New England Conservatory, Tufts University, Yale School of Music, and University of Colorado, Tina's devotion to chamber music, urban music education, and community service led her to establish Music Haven.

In addition to her active performing career and her commitment to the Vinca Quartet, Tina has served on the faculties of the BRAVO Summer String Institute in Minneapolis, the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, Boulder Suzuki Strings, the EMS String Festival in New Jersey, Pathways to Development in New York City, and Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. She is also a nationally registered Suzuki violin and viola instructor.
