St. Luke's Summer Music Camp 2019

St Luke’s Steel Band invites you to their 8th annual summer camp in partnership with Music Haven!

This will be an intense, educational and fun program that gives participants the opportunity to learn or improve their steel pan and string playing skills. At the end of two weeks students will be able to continue their music development at an even more rapid pace. 

When: July 8–19 M-F from 9am-1pm
Who: Students from 3rd grade through high school
Where: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 117 Whalley Avenue, New Haven

Cost:  $150.00

$25.00 discount if tuition is paid in full by May 1st! 

Camp Teachers:

  1. Kenneth Joseph, a Trinidadian native, is a graduate of the University of the West Indies Trinidad and Tobago, and Northern Illinois University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music respectively. Joseph has over twenty-five years of steelpan experience and has had the pleasure to perform with local, national and International steelbands. Joseph currently serves as the steelband director at Highville Charter School and the award-winning St Luke’s Steelband of New Haven. In addition to directing, Joseph continues to be an active arranger and performer. 

  2. Debby Teason, composer, director and arranger, has been involved with pan for over 20 years. She was the founding musical director of St. Luke’s Steel Band, and also teaches pan at Neighborhood Music School, Yale University, Foote School and Choate-Rosemary Hall. Ms. Teason’s compositions for pan include Trinity for steel band and orchestra, Cadences for solo tenor pan and string quartet and Essakane for three tenor pans, piano, bass and percussion.

  3. Annalisa Boerner is the violist of the Haven String Quartet, in residence at Music Haven.   As the permanent quartet-in-residence of Music Haven, the Haven String Quartet spearheads a nationally-recognized, free after-school lessons program for more than 80 students from New Haven’s most under-served neighborhoods. She has collaborated with such artists as the Kronos Quartet, the Cavani String Quartet, and the Claremont Trio. Annalisa earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and has performed with orchestras throughout New England and Ohio.

Students need to come with a snack and a happy and positive attitude - ready to be filled with music!
