Sofia - Age 18, violist

I have been playing for 12 years

My favorite memory of Music Haven was the one where I went into Music Haven on a weekend and recorded an audition for National Take A Stand Festival. I have never been more confident about my playing than on that Saturday.

Music Haven has taught me patience. Being around so many different types of musicians has taught me how different people experience and see the world.

Any advice?

Get into the habit of practicing because if you don't when you first start, it will be very hard to keep up with it.

If you were to write a blog about your time here at Music Haven what would you write?

I would write about how much music has impacted my life. I have had the opportunity to meet many talented and amazing musicians and was able to travel using my viola to get different places. I am very thankful for this time I was able to spend with Music Haven.

"Classical music is the base of all music and in order to enjoy modern music, you need to understand where it comes from"

My favorite piece to learn and play was definitely Sarabande because I was able to express myself (maybe a bit too much) and exaggerate my movements.

What is your plan for next year? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Next year I plan on going to college to major in Art and in 5 years I see myself holding a successful job and taking a lot of vacations.
